What is BMI?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple measure using your height and weight to estimate whether you're at a healthy weight. It's calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms by your height in meters squared.
Formula: BMI = weight (kg) / height² (m²)

Limitations of BMI
While BMI is a useful screening tool, it has limitations:
- Doesn't distinguish between muscle and fat mass
- May overestimate body fat in athletes
- May underestimate body fat in older persons
- Doesn't account for fat distribution
- Same thresholds used for all ethnicities, though risks vary
